Project Timeline Planner

Sketch out an indicative programme for your London extension, loft or renovation, from the first measured survey through planning, building control, party wall notice and construction.

The start date is when the survey stage begins, not when building work starts.

All default durations are illustrative only. They are not actual Shorplans lead times or a quote. Adjust every stage to suit your project.

About planning

The 8-week target applies only to valid non-major applications and is counted from validation. This planner assumes permission is granted first time. Refusal, amendments, conditions or an agreed extension of time will change the programme. Read more in our planning guides.

About party wall notices

Whether one or two calendar months of notice applies depends on the type of works. Notice expiry is not clearance to start: consent or an award may still be needed, and disputes add time. Shorplans are not party wall surveyors. See GOV.UK party wall guidance (opens in a new tab) or find a party wall surveyor near you.
